I have created a challenge for myself to only wear clothing I find in dumpsters or in the trash, for the period of one year, starting Feb 1st, 2008. I packed away *all* my clothing that was either purchased by me or given to me. I am doing this to show that enough usable clothing is sent to landfills, that this could easily be done.
I will also be writting about other types of waste and ways to help reduce waste. On occasion, I will write about my progress in the Riot for Austerity, 90% reduction project. Please follow along.

There are many different kinds of waste in our world. I would like to help decrease the vast amount of waste and help make the world a better place. I will begin by focusing on how much usable clothing is tossed out, thrown in dumpsters or otherwise headed for a landfill.

linked to you from Sharon Astyk & Riot for Austerity. I knew about recycling challenges (met Wendy Skinner in Ithaca in March, have read another Cynthia in Italy’s blog on “Art for Housewives,” and have been following the whole refashioning thing – have an old 1996 or so photo from Adbusters of a “downshifter” which is particularly well suited to now! I like your blog and your challenge. My problem is working with women who are by no means rich but still buy into the idea that living simply is a failure, and being rich is the point of life. I’ll keep working on it! I love all the new ideas about the “paradigm shift” as one woman in New Hampshire (Molly’s Blog) calls it from greed and love of money to other values …
